Let’s appreciate the Mbira

My source is Wisconsin Public Radio’s website – https://www.wpr.org/mbira

I have always struggled to express the tunes inside my mind with a musical instrument. I think that the closest I ever came to being comfortable with a musical instrument was with a sitar, though I have to give credit to my (almost-abusive) teacher Ms. Srivastava back in Pimpri.

The Kalimba, like the harp, is easy to learn but difficult to excel in. As of today, the 2nd of February, 2022, I, Suveer Panditrao can play 4 songs on my 34-key Kalimba, with varying levels of introduced complexities and without looking at sheet music.

The Mbira, one of the most important parts of the Zimbabwean Shona culture and music, is what an Englishman saw, heard and transmuted down to the Kalimba.

Please take 5 minutes to appreciate a song here – Shanje (translates to Jealousy) and it is about jealousy between wives in a polygamous household. I read this on this website: https://mbira.org/product/shanje/
